Originally from Syria, the Antoun family came to Prince Edward Island in 2016. The family was brought to the Island as a result of the sponsorship from First Baptist Church. The Antoun’s are a family of five, with parents Salim and Mary and children Sandra (24), Suliman (19) and Andro (13). Their home in Syria was completely destroyed by the ongoing conflict in the region and their dream was to come to Canada to escape the violence. Since their arrival, the family has been studying English and working. The family has a strong communal support system and is very excited to once again have a house to call their own. An interesting fact is that when residing in Syria, Sandra was employed by the United Nations.
This young growing family came to Habitat for Humanity PEI so they could provide their children with a home and yard they can call their own. The Martels consist of parents Yves and Shari and their children Sierra (15), Miajoy (7) Josiah (6) and Nadya (8 mths). Their friends suggested several times that the family should submit an application to Habitat for Humanity PEI since the family was quickly out growing their current residence. Due to the fact they were able to fulfill the social determinants of their children’s health, Yves and Shari felt they did not truly need housing assistance. However, due to a continual lack of space the family decided to apply. They were very excited upon learning the news they were approved and cannot wait until they can move into their forever home.
Rosette Bobo is a single mother of three children, Meschack (20), Christel (18) and Elda (15). Rosette has been residing in Prince Edward Island for the past five years where she has been working several jobs to provide for her family. Rosette has a developed and maintained a strong support system and has established a close friendship with other current partner families. She never imagined being in a position where she could secure a home for her children. Upon learning her application was approved she began crying tears of joy. Following the approval meeting, Rosette could be seen dancing in the parking lot. As a former refugee family in living Kenya for twelve years, the family is overwhelmed to become homeowners for the very first time.
Chelsea Laybolt is a single mom of two wonderful, beautiful children Autumn (7) and Leighton (4). Chelsea and her family are from Prince Edward Island and are very excited to partner with Habitat for Humanity PEI. Chelsea, Autumn and Leighton enjoy reading, going for walks and love creating yummy goodies in the kitchen. Becoming a partner family has enabled Chelsea the opportunity to provide her children with their forever home and has fulfilled the dream of homeownership. This new home will bring stability, happiness and comfort to this lovely young family.
