Apply to be a Homeowner
As a not-for-profit organization, Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to the elimination of inadequate housing by building homes in partnership with families in need. We believe in giving a hand-up and not a hand-out. Habitat partner families contribute to the construction of their own homes and then repay a long-term, no-interest and no down-payment mortgage.
Criteria for becoming a Habitat Partner
There has to be a need for adequate shelter. Things to consider: current cost of housing, housing issues that can affect the health of the family and number, gender and age of people currently sharing a room.
Willingness to Partner
There must be a willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity PEI. This partnership includes 500 hours of volunteer work. Volunteer hours include working for Habitat PEI and other community organizations.
Ability to Pay
Successful candidates must have a regular income that is not Employment Insurance, Income Assistance or any other “stop-gap” measures.
Successful candidates must have a total family income (excluding Canada Child Benefit) which falls within our income guidelines. These figures are evaluated annually and based on published Low Income Cut-Off figures. Our 2018 income range is $23,228 to $51,846, based on family size.
