Construction Manager

Position Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

Job Summary
The position is responsible for overseeing Habitat for Humanity PEI’s (HFHPEI) construction program and completing all the preparation work to ensure HFHPEI can proceed with homebuilding, including plans, permits, any zoning or severance applications, materials 
and contractor partnerships. The position will also act as the site supervisor for all projects, supervising labour and materials onsite including training, managing and developing volunteer house leaders and crew leaders. The Construction Manager will also be responsible for managing HFHPEI’s safety and training program for the construction site.

The person in this position must have the skill level run a construction site along with the ability to manage and supervise volunteers, while always promoting the values and mission of Habitat for Humanity PEI.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the HFHPEI team to plan and develop projects

  • Manage all building projects and related projects including preparing and maintaining build budgets, scheduling of projects, coordination of materials (GIK and purchased) and contractors to support the schedule, the permit process, progress and final occupancy inspections

  • Mediate and steward partnerships with local trades, contractors and suppliers to acquire goods and services for the building program

  • Act as site supervisor on HFHPEI projects, supervising all labour and materials onsite

  • Administer build meetings (“Toolbox Talks”) at the beginning of each build day

  • Communicate to the CEO details of build status and progress on a regular basis

  • Manage HFHPEI’s safety program for all construction operations; acting as the SHE Coordinator, conducting volunteer and employee training, and completing inspections and monthly reports

  • Provide training and guidance to volunteers of all skill levels, including international visiting teams through the Global Village program, the Women Build program, corporate Adopt-a-Days, and the Youth Build program

  • Maintain relationships with appropriate building department staff at the municipal and provincial level

  • Responsible for the maintenance of the WIPs (Work In Progress) and HFHPEI’s Warranty Program, including warranty repairs on completed homes

  • Office administrative duties related to building including assisting with month-end financial review and providing website and newsletter updates

  • Work week will require flexibility of schedule as some activities occur in the evening or on weekends



  • Extensive experience working in residential construction

  • Project management skills and experience

  • Ability to manage volunteers and other workers (including different trades)

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to think strategically, multi-task and meet deadlines

  • Openness to new ideas and innovation
